Rekindled (100 word story)

red shoes

Nothing had changed. Yet a whole new vista of dreams rolled out that changed everything.

As he settled in his seat, tuning out the whirring of jet engines that would take him home, he glimpsed a red shoe.

He remembered how they had argued playfully over her buying those red shoes. It wasn’t about the shoes really.

She had only worn them once in all these years.

Rather, it was about her spontaneity and daring, her exquisite taste for a flavour filled life.

Everything that he loved about her!

Closing his eyes, he savoured the anticipation of seeing her again.

    1. hahaha! Thanks Kamal. I don’t know if you know about women and their shoes but I’m guilty of buying shoes that I hardly wear. I am building on the two stories before and seeing where it takes me.😀

  1. Isn’t it amazing that sometimes the very things that you love about someone are the exact things that make you despise them if you linger in a relationship too long?
    LOL!
Captivating and masterful as always 🌹

    1. Thank you Gwin – the opposite can also be true, the more you think you are rid of old feelings, the more you might still find your defences crumbling. But hey, life is never a straight line Sweetheart!

      1. Not really, Chev. I’m not much of a shoe person (5 pairs total at present, none are high heels) but the article was interesting and shed light on a whole shoe culture I was unaware of. Poetry, like music, is a great means of escape. And sometimes relief from life is exactly what we need. 🙂

        1. Yes, I learnt a few things about the psychology of shoes myself. I still have plenty to declutter, especially the high heeled ones since I am already tall enough. Hope you are enjoying a good Easter weekend my friend.🌹

    1. Hahaha! The three stories go together. Of course there is enough space for you take the story whichever way. Even I don’t know where it will go next – the shoes are but a distraction. Now I ended on anticipation – so let’s see hahaha!
