Dance of the Seven Veils

Poetry in the Music

dance of the seven veils

Though it was a very small café

It held an overflowing sea of faces

Painted by the shadows from the candlelight

Everyone was waiting silently

And all of them were there for just one reason

She was said to be a goddess of the night

Suddenly the tiny stage was lit with gold

Then they saw the girl was even more than they’d been told

Ceremony of desire

The dance of the seven veils

Sets the coldest hearts on fire

The dance of the seven veils

She knew he would be in that cafe

He huddled at the darkest corner table

Vowing he would take her far away from this

As she turned her yearning eyes to him

She shimmied to the sound of finger cymbals

Like a dream that one day would be only his

Every other voice was crying out for more

Then she let another cloud of silk fall to the floor

Ceremony of desire

The dance of the seven veils

Sets the coldest hearts on fire

The dance of the seven veils

(Repeat 3 times)

She knew he would be in that café

And the last veil of silk fell to the floor

(Lyrics by Carl Anderson from Pieces of the Heart)
